Super Tuesday

We're starting off this super Tuesday with a developers diary from the upcoming Age of Conan on the 360 from Gamespot...

NFL no longer the No Fun League? Joystiq is reporting the addition of celebrations in the annual Madden roster update of 2009. Football fans will know that the NFL penalizes it's players for endzone celebrations. But they seem to be forming a sense of humor, even if it's only in the video game form.
Now, when you want to celebrate reaching the end zone, you need only press a button and the party of one will begin. Also, players who are known for their celebrations will have them modeled in the game.

A Rock Band first is this week's DLC. "Saints of Los Angeles" - Mötley Crüe (80 MS points/ $1) is now available. This is the first time a new track is available for gameplay. Mötley Crüe still exists? I will have to check this song out before I commit the whopping 80 points, I'm leaning towards no thanks.

Last but not least, the release calendar for today

APRIL 15, 2008
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (retail) (PS3)
High School Musical 2: Work This Out! (DS)
Okami (Wii)

Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection 2008 (PC)

Super Tuesday!

First off, before we get to a few game related happenings. Congratulations to the 2008 NCAA National Champion Kansas Jayhawks on their come from behind victory last night to defeat the Memphis Tigers in OT. Mario Chalmers drained a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left to tie up the game before KU pulled away in overtime.

Now on to the games!

So what hit the shelves today? Courtesy of Gamespot, here are today's releases.

APRIL 8, 2008
Assassin's Creed (PC)
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 (PS2)
Plushees (DS)
Fab 5 Soccer (DS)
World Championship Cards (PS2)
Half-Life 2: Episode Pack (PC)
MiniCopter: Adventure Flight (WII)
Arcana Heart (PS2)
Portal (PC)
Team Fortress 2 (PC)
Baroque (PS2, WII)

A shit load of fun to be had with the individual releases of Half Life 2, Portal and TF2 for the PC. As well as the beefed up PC release of Assassin's Creed with more content. Of course the PS2 still continues to push content out, gotta love Sony for that. Or do we?

We also get a first look at Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, courtesy of Gamespot.

Joystiq is reporting a possibility of the 2008 version of "Red Rings of Death."

Unlike the distinctive three red lights of the RRoD, the "E74" error is characterized by a blinking red light in the lower-right corner of the ring and graphical problems on the television. The problem has been known for a while but is currently not covered by Microsoft's extended three-year Xbox 360 warranty, which only applies to traditional Red Ring problems -- E74 sufferers have to shell out the money to ship their system in for repairs.

Joystiq also has some new information on the MP aspect of GTAIV. A few things included are:

  • Previously rumored 16-player online play is confirmed.
  • The online maps aren't changed in any way from single-player -- you can still drive vehicles from one end of the city to the other, if you want.
  • The volume of other characters voices will vary depending on their distance from you. "So if you hear an enemy's voice, he's probably right behind you and it's too late."
And finally, in what we can only coin as How the fuck is this game news? Another sad story from Kotaku

After dropping into a coma from severe brain injury, a 2-year-old-girl from York, Pennsylvania was declared dead last night. Her mother's boyfriend who confessed to the beating is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. The mother has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

In summary of that story, douchebags are douchebags no matter what methods are used in their quest for ultimate douchebaggery.

That's it for this Tuesday. If you don't have the new DLC Map Pack for COD4 already, spend those 800 points and come and kill me. theSneekapeek is my gamertag on XBL, hit me up bitches! We are planning to do a show on Sunday, but I may be raiding Karazhan with my priest. If this happens, hopefully we will have an alternative way to get a show out.

Smells Like Dead Bodies

Here is a brief breakdown of the upcoming maps to be released for COD4 within a few days.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare DLC

Variety Map Pack
Price: 800 MS Points
Release Date: Early-April (3rd or 4th)

Since details on the maps have been pretty scattered throughout the internet, I thought I’d give you guys a comprehensive breakdown of each map in the upcoming Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare along with some suggestions on gametypes, classes, and a few more screenshots to look over; all in one location.

Killhouse

“Killhouse” is an enclosed warehouse made of plywood structures, mock-ups and speed-run courses used for training, creating the right mix of obstacles for small team games or free-for-alls with a variety of soft and hard cover points spread throughout the entire ground level.

Chinatown
A modern revision of the classic Call of Duty “Carentan” map, “Chinatown” takes players to the foggy downtown district of a Chinatown. A night time setting, the cityscape is well lit by the full moon and the glow of brightly colored lanterns and neon lights from local businesses. This district offers a variety of open-street and interior settings, perfect for fire fights throughout the connected roads, courtyards, antique shops and markets within it. Great for all game types and players.

Creek
A large wide open village in the woods, “Creek” consists of heavy foliage, great for sniper cover: a deep ravine offers an excellent vantage point for ambushes; an underground cave offers an alternate evasion route; and various multi-floor houses populate a patchwork of connected farmland. This extensive open map is great for snipers with plenty of natural coverage consisting of rocks and trees. There are various routes for advancement from both high and low vantage points over and underneath the hillsides. Another great map for large team games.

Broadcast
Its size and alternating routes make “Broadcast” great for large team games. A large, multi-story television station with plenty of window vantage points creates the perfect setting for floor-to-floor combat. The station is surrounded by extensive outdoor areas consisting of a long parking lot, surrounding buildings with sniping hiding spots and side-rooftop access to the top and bottom floors of the television station.

Paradise Patch "Bogart" Inches Closer

Criterion announced on their podcast, Crash FM, last week that the current patch has left their hands and will be certification bound soon. The Top 10 problems, along with many others, reported by the community have been fixed.

  • PS3 game can crash when a player is taken down and the player that has performed the Takedown leaves the game.
  • The game indefinitely displays "Connecting to Paradise City Servers" if it's having problems pinging the rebroadcast server.
  • Disconnecting the controller before a race begins can mean that race timings can be manipulated with players who didn't cross the line first being awarded the win.
  • Repeatedly joining and leaving a game with 8 players can cause the game to hang.
  • Hammering the A (360) or X (PS3) after unlocking a car can cause the game to hang.
  • East Crawford and Watt St achievements can not be achieved if the player goes online and sets road rules before attempting them.
  • Audio distortion when using 5.1 / DTS and looking rearwards.
  • Enhanced 360 streaming performance stops instances where the game seems to pause for a second or so.
  • Total time driven in player stats would stick at 145 hours :)
  • VoIP connection problems with 8 player games.

The Burnout team also reported that the next patch, Cagney, will include some major changes in online gameplay. A big change coming is the implementation of more Freeburn Challenges. A few of the types the will be working on is Stunt Run, Marked Man, and Road Rage. All which are going to be timed Freeburn Challenges, which is another change to online gameplay.

In an effort to diminish the exploitation of ranked online races, Criterion will remove the customization of routes and traffic. "Sanctioned" races will have pre-set routes that so players aren't allowed to change settings mid-race in order to boost their rank. For more information you can check out the Official Burnout Paradise website.

Super Tuesday?!

That's right, April Fools Day falls on Tuesday this year. The World of Warcraft community was treated with their yearly dose of fool's gold, as well as some extended maintenance. Somehow I don't think the small bug fix patch, however, was funny to the WoW fanatics. But were things all fun and games across the world of gaming? We can only hope.

  • What do I know about AFD? I know that the ever popular credits song from Portal, Still Alive, is available for download today for Rock Band via Xbox Live. How much would you pay for this song that's sure to put a smile on your face? 160 points? 100 points? How about freaking free!? Still Alive will be available on April 17 for the PS3 community rockers. What exactly could we have done to be blessed with this? IGN says ...
Harmonix VP of product development Greg LoPiccolo said the free "Still Alive" download is a "thank you" to Rock Band fans for their support of the music game.

  • IGN also reports, according to their sources, a Halo movie may not be out of the realm of possibility.
The Latino Review website, who swear this is not an April Fool's joke of any kind, are reporting that Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter Stuart Beattie has written a non-commissioned script for the adaptation that's being shopped on the open market.

  • One story sure to perk up someone from this show's ears is ... Go ahead and click, I'm not giving this information for nothing. Thanks to Joystiq for the 411.

  • So what could possibly top off such a day that is filled with haha, lol, kek, lmao? Gamespot's release calendar for today sadly enough, isn't a joke.
APRIL 1, 2008
